Spring has finally arrived in the UK. Although the weather is still quite unstable, the temperature is already up. As we normally change our makeup during warmer days, it is indeed a good idea to switch fragrances as well. Spring demands fresher, lighter scents. That doesn’t mean, however, plain and boring florals.

  • Aerin's Rose de Grasse EDP (£135 per 50ml) is a delightful floral, the first of the luxurious Aerin's Premier Collection, and has three exquisite roses in its heart: Rose Centifolia, handpicked in the South of France, Bulgarian rose, and Rose Absolute. Feminine and sophisticated, yet far from plain, it closes slightly warmer and woody with ambrette seed, musk and violet wood. Although quite pricey, Rose de Grasse lasts for hours on the skin.   • Recently launched, Acqua di Parma's Acqua Nobile Rosa Eau de Toilette (£87 per 100ml) is exquisitely delicate and fresh, yet very elegant and joyful. Its top notes include bergamot, mandarin and blackcurrant, whereas its heart notes are a delicious floral blend of Damask rose, cyclamen, freesia, black pepper and Centifolia rose. The scent closes slightly warmer with grey amber and musk, and it's very long-lasting on the skin, which is vital for a fragrance, especially during milder spring days.   • Dolce Floral Drops EDT (£44 per 30ml), by Dolce & Gabbana, is a lovely blend of neroli leaves and papaya flower in its top notes, white flowers – white amaryllis, white daffodil and white water lily – at its heart and sandalwood, musk and cashmeran in its base. The scent, which is the fresher version of Dolce Eau de Parfum, was introduced early this year and has a gorgeous packaging, with thick frosted glass and a cap in the shape of a white flower.   • Marni Rose EDP (£68 per 65ml) is not the traditional rose scent. It's edgy, yet subtly, and strong, but feminine. Marni Rose opens with an unexpected combination of cardamom oil, bitter almond, blackcurrant and spearmint, commonly known as nana mint, whereas raspberry, rose oil Bulgaria, rose absolute and violet are mixed in its heart notes. Its base, quite woody, is an amalgam of patchouli, cedar wood and white musk. This fragrance, the second ever launched by Marni, is truly powerful, even sexy, and it can be easily worn in any weather ©MarniMarni Rose EDP (£68 per 65ml) is not the traditional rose scent. Its heart notes are a delicate combination of jasmine and lily of the valley, whilst its base notes are vanilla, patchouli, musk, Tonka bean and black liquorice. The fragrance closes milder with amber musk, patchouli, moss and orris butter. The scent, launched in 2011, is also marvellous as it starts sweet, yet lively, with Italian bergamot and white truffles. Its heart notes are delicate white flowers –  jasmine, orange blossom and tuberose – blended with strawberries.
