INSIDE THE TREATMENT: AVEDA AND THE BOTANICAL THERAPY
Carla Valois Lobo
I confess that I’ve always been careless with my hair. There was a time where I would use any shampoo. I never cared too much as my hair, which although being thick, is pretty straight. After some years of neglect, I noticed an unpleasant frizz and some split ends. Then I started applying better products, during and after the shower, and I am quite satisfied ever since. At home, nonetheless, I can’t keep my hair as smooth as when I go to the salon, even when I’m there just to cut it. When I visited Aveda‘s Lifestyle Salon & Spa, for example, I tried the Botanical Therapy, a treatment inspired by the Ayurveda, how the Indian medicine is called; I left completely renewed, feeling truly flawless.
Aveda, which was founded in 1978 in Minnesota, United States, is part of the Estée Lauder group since 1997 and is very popular here in England, so much that just the Lifestyle Salon & Spa, in Covent Garden, has three floors and occupies almost an entire block of High Holborn. As soon as I arrived, in the middle of the afternoon, I was served a cup of green tea with orange and, not even 10 minutes later, I was assisted by Jessamy Fraser, one of the 70 professionals working there every day. She then started explaining to me that the treatment repairs the scalp and the hair, which, afterwards, leaves the hair moisturised and brighter.
After an amazing massage on my scalp, where Jessamy applied an oil from Aveda’s professional range – unfortunately, not for sale –, she washed my hair with a shampoo from the Dry Remedy™ collection, as well as the mask, that she applied subsequently. While I waited for the mask to work, I received another massage, but this time on my hands. The last part of the treatment consists of a blow dry and styling the hair with the Pure Abundance Style Prep™ spray. In 60 minutes, my hair went from rubbish to pure glow.
With the the treatment finished, I enjoyed the rest of the afternoon getting to know other Aveda’s products, as the brand doesn’t have only hair care items, but also body and skincare, as well as a makeup line. Since then, I’ve been using the Stress-Fix™ body lotion and the Green Science™ firming moisturiser, and I’m really enjoying both of them. Before leaving the salon, just to make the experience even better, I tried the green juice from Le Pain Quotidien, which is located on the first floor of the Lifestyle Salon & Spa.
